A Cure for Huntington’s Disease!

Professors Ed Wild and Sarah Tabrizi

For many years, Huntington’s disease was thought to be impossible to cure. It’s a rare illness that causes parts of the brain to slowly stop working, and it runs in families. But recently, scientists have made huge progress toward stopping it for good. Teams from companies like uniQure and Wave Life Sciences, along with researchers around the world, have been working together to find a way to fix the broken gene that causes the disease. Their new treatments are showing amazing results in early tests — they can actually reduce or even stop the damage happening in the brain. Some scientists are even using gene therapy, which means changing the faulty gene itself so it works correctly again. While the cure is still being tested, this discovery gives real hope to families who have waited generations for good news. It’s a reminder that every discovery starts with curiosity — and that science can truly change lives.
